Nice but flawed book

Japanese Fashion Designers (the work and influence of Issey Miyake, Yohji Yamamoto, and Rei Kawakubo) is a nice book especially for the price. One MAJOR flaw is that each designer get a section of their own with a photo of the designer at the beginning of the chapeter, well Issey Miyake's is wrong. It's not a picture of Issey Miyake, but of Naoki Takizawa (a former Issey Miyake designer). It's sad that the writer/editor did NOT notice this. How you can NOT tell that the photo is not of Issey Miyake? Very idiotic!

Outside of that the book is pretty good with info on newer designers. One of my personal favorites being Tao Kurihara (sadly she does not have her own line, Tao, anymore. It also has wonderful sections on the Japanese influence on Dutch and Belgian designers.

I do recommend the book, but that mislabeled photo is a BIG BIG screw up!!!!

Good info, well researched but flawed book.

This book is the perfect starting point if you want to do research on the japanese fashion/clothing designers and their work. It explains much not only about their work in general but also about their techniques and philosophies.

However, as the other reviewer pointed out, the book is flawed. My copy is missing pages 17-48 and substituted them with pages 81-112, which are again repeated in the order later on. This proved to be a major stepback in my research. I don't believe I can return the book as I already marked it with my notes.

Wikipedia does a better job than this author

Such an immensely disappointing read. The book is very small, with grainy black and white photos, and small font. The text about each designer is broad, and not informative. Wikipedia does a better job than this author, which is sad. I consider myself a novice of Japanese design, but I'm very interested in it, so it's unfortunate when you buy a book a don't learn much from it. Buyer beware- it's a total waste of money.

When The Best Little Boy in the World was first published in 1973, Andrew Tobias could write about what it had felt like to begin to accept his homosexuality, but he couldn't bring himself to sign his own name to the book, for fear of embarrassing his parents. And so it was "John Reid" who became a hero to the thousands of gay males who found in this memoir a mirror for their own experiences.

Although the book appears rambling at times, Tobias always has a clear sense of where he wants to take readers with the story. He treats his closeted adolescence and college years, and his stumbling first attempts at "doing a thing" with other gay men, with a self-effacing humor that exposes his pain without descending into self-pity. And if his life seems fairly ordinary, apart from the sexual awakening ... well, that was the whole point. "You like and respect us when you don't realize we're gay," he writes in a new introduction, "so now please just continue to like and respect us once you do realize. It's not that big a deal."

It's still true.

I picked this book up last night and couldn't stop reading. I thought mine was a unique journey, but it's not. Mr. Tobias has already been there - about twenty five years ago. If you have a similar background - WASP, upper middle class upbringing, sports oriented - you'll likely find yourself in this book. Sure, he disparages other types of gay men, but that's what's so honest - he's telling you how he really feels, whether it's p.c. or not. Too many books about coming out tell you some perfect version of how you should feel.
My story is very much like this one, a long struggle within myself, a lot of dodging (the story about faking hookups with girls in college hit so close that my hands started shaking, as did the sinking feeling after college when everyone starts pairing up and getting married). Sure some things have changed since the 1970s, but a whole lot has not. The emotions and coping mechanisms for someone like myself are all still the same.

I bought this book on Kindle because it was the fastest way to get it so that I would have it in time for this past semester when it started. The author is my professor in the particular Evolution class that I am taking and it was used as our text. I am glad that I have it on my kindle because even though I don't usually read a book more than once, I will be reading this one again after I am finished with school and can just relax and soak it in as I read along. I have all my life believed in God but I have also believed that we only have part of the story. This book is a very good starting point to learn about Evolution, and Sherrie pulls factual information from all over for this book. This book is written in a language that everyone can understand. Thats what makes it so nice, and in the title it does say that it is the Basics and it is. It is an easy read and you may find yourself searching out other books about those people mentioned in the book, like Darwin for starters. Deanna

Could'nt have a more apt title

In this 10th installation of The November Man series, Bill Granger has come up with one of his best yarns. At a US/Soviet summit in Switzerland, a tape recording of the secret conversations winds up in the hands of an American freelance translator. After the tape is "accidentally" left in his luggage by a hotel clerk, the translator listens to the tape during a long train ride and learns of its secrets. As all sides converge on the man and his lover, the chase for control of the tape intensifies.

Enter Deveroux/November. He is sent by R Section to find the tape and encounters nemesis Henry McGee, who has managed to escape from Federal Prison in a very well written passage. As in all November Man novels, the line between good and is blurred to an ambiguous grey. There are really no good guys in Granger's world of intrigue, only differing agendas. In the all-out hunt for the tape unholy alliances emerge out of necessity as Deveroux must sort of cooperate with McGee. In the end all that matters to the powers that be is the covering of their own asses. This novel covers so much in its 264 pages that it's hard to explain it all. To sum it up I have to say it was one of the most interesting looks into the mind of the iconoclast that is agent Deveroux a.k.a The November Man.

Great book for learning on how to become a freelancer on Fiverr

Thanks to the internet, new opportunities have opened up for many people especially in the freelancing sector. The book talks about one such opportunity; a website called Fiverr. It about the basics of online freelancing and what to expect when working online with people around the world. The first few chapters talk about the different ways to promote yourself on the website to have more potential clients reach out to you which I believe was a nice part since the hardest part of being a beginner freelancer is establishing a clientele.

Other parts of the book talked about what to avoid doing as a freelancer as well as different tips on how to further improve yourself as a freelancer. It also discussed the different jobs that one can enter as an online freelancer such as being a virtual assistant or a designer/artist for a client. Overall, it's a well written book that talks about the benefits and dangers of being a freelancer.

Unhelpful, outlandish advice

Wave frantically at girls to get their attention. That is just one of the many golden gems you will find in this book. "Avoid judgementalness, but if a girl says something judgemental, go on to tell her how terrible she is for saying that and how you don't like people like her. She will be all over you and ready to leave the club with you in 10 minutes." I swear you can't make this up.

The one single piece of useful advice in this book is to not let fear of failure hold you back. Everything else is about how to be a jackass. And at least 75% of the "advice" consists of anecdotes that involve being in clubs. I recommend you not waste your time.

When I came across Charlie's work I knew right away something was different. While a lot of 'dating coach' websites seems sleazy and money-hungry, Charlie & Ben seem mature, genuine & authentic. This is hugely important, as I know that I won't be able to learn much from a guy who is manipulative, egocentric, or unethical. The price was right and the book comes with a free Coaching session (which Charlie promptly followed up on) so I gave it a shot.

I was blown away by the quality of the book -- not only the formatting of the PDF and the quality of the writing, and the things I learned. Charlie has laid out the methods he's used to thrive in NYC's most prestigious nightclubs -- the ones with $250 entry fees for the super-wealthy Wall Street set -- *without* being one of the super-wealthy Wall Street guys himself. He's *also* laid out how to meet women in everyday life, which is key, because not every guy wants to go into that nightlife environment.

He does it by being himself. And I believe that anyone who reads this book will get the inspiration and permission to fully embrace the confidence, authentic man that's buried under years of bad social programming.

Here are some great tips you can look forward to in this book:

- How to be comfortable dancing in clubs (and get a ton of attention for it)
- How to make yourself heard in loud clubs (I have not seen this advice anywhere else, and I've studied voice and singing professionally)
- How to be more comfortable in your own skin, anytime

What I really love about this book is the ethical stance taken. There is no lying, no manipulation, no cheating, no taking advantage of women. Other dating coaches may pay lip service to this ideal but I see Charlie & Ben living it.

Highly recommended.

Not Good

I really enjoyed the first book and jumped at the chance to get part two. I was so disappointed in the book. It felt rushed and redundant. I am confused about the glowing reviews. The story had so much potential. The storyline with Maddie was dropped. What about her revenge? I actually was looking forward to exploring what was happening in that relationship. Also, the way Aiden flipped out was not realistic. He was so careful in his reactions, I couldn't see him loosing control like that. I could see him coming up with a much more devious plan than that. Eva's conclusion...I don't know what happened here but it felt disjointed. I rarely give a book such a low review but I really hope the author looks at this review and understands as a reader, we owe it to the author to give truthful reviews to help authors perfect their craft.

Good Read

This was a good read. Some parts will have you emotional, but other then that it was a great ending to this story. This book showed that even after years the true love you have for a person will always be there. It also left a good message about relationships when going through problems. If you truly love a person don't give up. Instead fight for it! Now as far as the characters in this book. I couldn't stand that crazy Eva or Aiden! Some of the things revealed I would have never guessed. You never know a person until they show their true colors. Aiden was the devil in disguise and Eva was psychotic! I loved all the rest of the characters. Especially mama G! Oh and let's not forget about Bubbles! He was such a character!!!

That sneak peek left me wanting more and I can't wait until I get the chance to read it.

Good read. Enjoyed and glad that everything was wrapped up

This was a good read and I enjoyed it. After awhile all the love dovey was almost getting to be to much. This is when I usually start to skip pages to get pass the redundancy and get to the drama. I was quite surprise that I didn't do this. I contribute this to Kyoshi gifted writing style. In any case, I'm glad that I didn't because babe around 60% the s*** got good and took off. Starting with the real Aiden coming to the surface, and his connection to another character. After that the cra cra was on and I couldn't put it down. I hate when people spoil plot lines in their reviews, so I'll just say that I found the part in the cemetary to be unbelievable. If anything that charater would have killed their nemisis as well.
