Born and raised Christian, I've believed in and followed Jesus Christ all of my life, and so years ago when I began seeking, I wasn't looking for something other than Jesus or Christianity, but was merely seeking inner peace. I discovered the Nag Hammadi Scriptures after asking God to show me the truth, and I was astounded by what I found there. Reading them launched me on an in-depth study of both the New and Old Testaments and non-canonical texts as well, and I found as I moved through these texts, that the information began fitting together like the pieces of a puzzle. Answer after answer unfolded before me and I emerged from these studies totally transformed and with a faith and belief in Christ that is unshakable. I wrote The Secret Door: Jesus, the Lost Gospels and the True Nature of Salvation in hopes of helping others find answers to the sometimes contradictory nature of the Bible itself, to point the way to the meanings of Jesus' parables, and find the truth that has been buried for so long. Jesus truly gave us the answers to everything, but we need to seek those answers out by putting that scattered information back together again. The information contained in The Secret Door will help readers do that.

When Jesus said, "Seek and you will find; ask and the door will be opened," he was literally pointing the way for each and every one of us to find the secret door within. Find out why doing this is so important; why the Scriptures, which spoke of the need for this, were banned and hidden so many centuries ago; and why seeking understanding of everything that Jesus said is more important now than ever before. Find out who the "fallen angels" were (and are), when they are likely to return, and why, in the words of the Apostle Paul, it's imperative to "... take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand." (Ephesians 6:13)

About the Author
Several years ago, author J. A. Warrick took Jesus' words, "Seek and you will find; ask and the door will be opened," to heart and began a personal journey through the Old and New Testaments, the Nag Hammadi Scriptures and many other texts and writings. A door was indeed opened and The Secret Door is the culmination of the author's journey through that door, the fruits of which the author now shares with all who are seeking the truth, and who want to strengthen their understanding of, and belief in Jesus Christ. J. A. Warrick lives in the Midwest with her husband and son, and an adopted Australian cattle dog.

started good but ended bad

I agree that the baptism of the spirit is required for true salvation but he went way off the reservation with reincarnation, and that another being beside God created man. it's hard to connect how the removed gospels/apocrypha provide a 'new' interpretation of Jesus words. Pretty twisted logic in many places. I thought this wild challenge my thinking but instead this turns out to be another cult manual....started good..ended bad.

At the minimum this book has allowed me to see the teaching of Jesus in a new perspective. The questions I've been running through my brain have answers. My heart is filled with joy knowing where to find the truth. The vail of darkness has been lifted. Thank you so much. Praise Jesus!

Falling into anti-semitism...

"By their fruits shall you know them..." Much of this is interesting and thoughtful, but it also fell into the same trap some gnosticism did, a rationale for hatred and anti-semitism that at one point in this book even collapses into a defense of the Holocaust. Excellent as an example of the pitfalls that surround the spiritual quest, very dangerous as a guide for the same.

Travelogue with a wealth of historical information about the creativity on one famous street in Berlin

My husband and I love Berlin and have been a few times, but now want to return with this book in hand. The book is to the point and covers so much history and art in such a small, short book. A wonderful travel companion to a very exciting street in history. I can so easily see my great uncle's place in the Berlin at the time with all those other creativity artists. Franz Wachsmann (Waxman) played piano for the Weintraub Syncopators, played in the Tingle Tangle Club, and played piano for Trude Hesterberg, as well as Marlene Dietrich. It was Friederich Hollander who invited him to Paris to score 'Lilliom' which saved Franz's life and enabled him to come to Hollywood, where he made his name in the film industry to make enough money to sponsor his parents and sister to come to Hollywood. Franz's sister was my grandmother, and her daughter was my mother. I was born in Hollywood, thanks to my great uncle and the cabaret scene in Weimar Germany!

If your little one is afraid of monsters and things that go "bump" in the night, this is DEFINITELY the book for you!

So many children are afraid of "monsters" in their closets, under their beds, etc., that bedtime can be a frightening time for them. Whoever came up with the idea for "Monsters, Inc." found an ingenious way to de-mystify those monsters! First, the storyteller does not DENY that they exist (for terrified children, those monsters are very real, and well-meaning adults telling them "There's no such thing as monsters!" does little to calm those fears!)... rather, it's explained WHY monsters scare children (because the "energy" from their screams is used to power their city, Monstropolis), then your little one is introduced to the main characters, two FRIENDLY looking monsters named Sulley (a large blue apish looking fellow with horns and purple splotches) and his assistant "scarer" Mike (a green, one-eyed little guy), and tells the story from their perspective. As it turns out, THEY are afraid of children as well, since it's believed they are toxic! When a little girl (whom Sulley names "Boo") enters their world (a plan by another "scarer" named Randall - who's in cahoots with the boss, Mr. Waternoose - to hook the child up to a machine that will suck all of the screams out of her), the kindness, concern and protectiveness of Sulley and Mike toward Boo is obvious as they attempt to get her home safe into her bed. When she laughs, they realize that it makes the lights in their world even BRIGHTER than her screams! In the end, the plot against Boo is discovered by tricking Mr. Waternoose, he's taken away, Sulley becomes boss, and the monsters' jobs now become telling jokes and making children laugh, which gives their city much more power than screams! The illustrations from the 2001 Disney/Pixar computer-animated film this book is based on are terrific, and I really think reading this book with a frightened child - especially at bedtime, and the 24 page length is perfect for that - might just be the perfect remedy. My own two sons were teenagers when this movie came out, so we didn't see it, but from what I've read, this Little Golden Book does a nice job of covering the plot, and it was a great addition to the collection of Disney classics Little Golden Books we've compiled for our young grandsons.

Another one to NOT buy

Pretty good movie, terrible synopsis. Who is in charge of the golden books texts these days? For awhile they were moderately good, like the Mulan and Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast ones, and now they are just wretched bottom-of-the-barrel texts with NO substance. They don't even clearly indicate the plot of the movie, or who the characters are and how they relate to one another. Useless. Kids who like stories will be deeply annoyed that this so-called "story" answers none of their questions about the appealing images that first attract their attention.

My daughter loves this movie her favorite character is Boo. We got this to add to her growing little golden book collection. It is a great short read for a bed time book, and my daughter loves the pictures.

"Comparative Criminal Justice Systems: a Topical Approach" is a study of a few foreign legal systems with a political approach and an "international perspective". According to the author, Phil L. Reichel, the goal of his book is to extend the reader's knowledge about other countries, their citizens and their cultures but most important to find ways to improve society; not only at a local but at a global level as well.
In this book, Reichel talks about interesting facts about crime and crime rate around the world. For example, crime statistics may not be accurate due to lack of means to report them-small villages away from the city; same legal system encourages law officials not to make reports, political reason. Reichel also talks about substantive law and procedural law in the four legal traditions.
Learning an international perspective on foreign legal systems is also undoubtedly excellent to better understand and to improve the American Justice System. Although the last chapter of this book was so disappointing to me, I still recommend it.

Great book and Professor

This book covers almost everything you need to know about justice systems around the world. It is full of facts and examples from several different countries ranging from courts, corrections and policing. Dr. Reichel is also my professor for Comparative Justice and I can tell you I have learned a lot between his book and personal teachings.

Great quality

I adore Tolkien and own many copies of his books. But this is the copy I keep next to my desk and look at daily. The set is simply gorgeous.

The leather is high quality and thick. It's not just a thin veneer. The gold lettering shimmers in the light, as does the gilded edges of the pages. There's a lovely ribbon book-marker built into each book. They come with two-color maps that unfold so you can follow along with the voyages (or mount the map on the wall). Definitely one of those sets that will get treasured for decades and passed down.

So there are several maps, and several of the books include a full-color painting in the first few pages to highlight the content.

Well recommended for lovers of Tolkien.

This is a great set! Worth it, for sure.

Bought the LoTR, Hobbit, and Silmarillion from Easton Press in one set (not easy to find here, BTW). Love the books, love the Easton Press printings. The bindings are good, the covers substantial.

One thing: has anybody translated the runes (futhork), which are the "moon letters' on Thorin's map, on the covers? You will notice, if you do, that the word, "when" is terribly screwed up. On older printings, it's: "I I W E N". On the latest printings (which I own) it's 'corrected to' "H W E N".

BTW; The Easton Press The Atlas of the Middle-earth is the best, most legible copy I've ever owned/used.

BTW: despite my purchase being recent, the rune error is the original, not the "fixed".

Edit added: I purchased all mine directly from Easton Press.

Gorgeous books, too nice to read, should be used to display.

Had issues buying these from the seller. Not the sellers fault though, the package was either lost or stolen.

Ended up purchasing these books from someone on ebay later down the road, and they are an absolutely beautiful set of books. I don't think I could even read them, they're display pieces in my mind. I have my old paperbacks of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit that I'd rather use for hands on reading, These just need to be admired.

About the Author
Arthur O'Sullivan is a professor of economics at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon. After receiving his B.S. in economics at the University of Oregon, he spent two years in the Peace Corps, working with city planners in the Philippines. He received his Ph.D. in economics from Princeton University in 1981 and has taught at the University of California, Davis, and Oregon State University, winning several teaching awards at both schools. He recently accepted an endowed professorship at Lewis and Clark College, where he teaches microeconomics and urban economics. He is the author of the best-selling textbook, "Urban Economic"s, currently in its sixth edition. Professor O'Sullivan's research explores economic issues concerning urban land use, environmental protection, and public policy. His articles have appeared in many economics journals, including the" Journal of Urban Economics, Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, National Tax Journal, Journal of Public Economics, "and" Journal of Law and Economics." Professor O'Sullivan lives with his family in Lake Oswego, Oregon. For recreation, he enjoys hiking, boogie-boarding, paragliding, and squash. Steven M. Sheffrin is dean of the division of social sciences and professor of economics at the University of California, Davis. He has been a visiting professor at Princeton University, Oxford University, and the London School of Economics and has served as a financial economist with the Office of Tax Analysis of the United States Department of Treasury. He has been on the faculty of the University of California, Davis, since 1976 and has served as the chairman of the department of economics. He received his B.A. fromWesleyan University and his Ph.D. in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Professor Sheffrin is the author of 10 other books and monographs and over 100 articles in the fields of macroeconomics, public finance, and international economics. His most recent books include "Rational Expectations" (second edition) and "Property Taxes and Tax Revolts: The Legacy of Proposition 13" (with Arthur O'Sullivan and Terri Sexton). Professor Sheffrin has taught macroeconomics at all levels, from large introduction to principles classes (enrollments of 400) to graduate classes for doctoral students. He is the recipient of the Thomas Mayer Distinguished Teaching Award in economics. He lives with his wife Anjali (also an economist) in Davis, California, and has two daughters who have studied economics. In addition to a passion for current affairs and travel, he plays a tough game of tennis. Stephen Perez is chair of the economics department at California State University, Sacramento. After receiving his B.A. in economics at the University of California, San Diego, he received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Davis, in 1994. He taught economics at Virginia Commonwealth University and Washington State University before coming to California State University, Sacramento, in 2001. He teaches macroeconomics at all levels as well as econometrics, sports economics, labor economics, and mathematics for economists.
Professor Perez's research explores most macroeconomic topics. In particular, he is interested in evaluating the ability of econometric techniques to discover the truth, issues of causality in macroeconomics, and sports economics. His articles haveappeared in many economics journals, including the "Journal of Monetary Economics," "Econometrics Journal," "Economics Letters," "Journal of Economic Methodology," "Public Finance and Management," "Journal of Economics and Business," "Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics," "Journal of Money, Credit, and Banking, Applied Economics," and "Journal of Macroeconomics."
