Great fun guaranteed! Pop 'til you can Pop no More!

Once again Carol Beckerman delivers the goods in the latest of her clear, fun and reliable books. I have her previous ones on breakfasts, slow cooking, and gluten free dishes and can't recommend them enough, so I was excited to find this new book on everyone's favorite movie snack: Popcorn!

The author serves up novel new ways to enjoy popcorn. Everything from Italian, BBQ, Cajun and Thai are covered. And you thought it only came buttered! The caramelized recipes are amazing. I've taken bowls to parties and the whole batch disappears in a matter of minutes. I use some recipes more than others, but its great to have so many options to choose from. Kettle corn is a quick and easy recipe for last minute cravings and the chocolate recipes all make great homemade gifts.

Tip: always use butter or oil in these recipes. I think some reviewers have had issues because they're using margarine. This has a high water content and will not work correctly. It's a common mistake to make, and makes the popcorn deflate.

Overall the recipes are delicious and the design is really nice. I just gave a copy to my friend for her birthday and she loves it too!

I LOVE this book!

Fantastic book for kids and grown ups alike...this is a huge hit with my seven and five year old, and equally popular for a girls night in.
Fun and interesting recipes, I think the previous reviewer is missing the point - this is not supposed to be a serious cook book...it's popcorn!!
Have fun trying out new flavours, and experiement with some of your own creations. I 100% recommend this book, and I've bought it as a gift for several friends, who are equally thrilled with it. A definate thumbs up from me :)

A Blaze of Light

It may be a tough go at first but if the reader works his way through the elegant and highly intelligent prose of HALAKHIC MAN, the book ultimately yields a starkly simple but profound truth--that the Torah was brought down from heaven and given to the Jewish People here on earth, so that this nation of priests can reshape the physical realm into something holy. That is the awesome task of Halakhic Man. In the words of this sage we can see, with breathtaking clarity, that the 613 mitzvoth or commandments are not collection of dusty, restrictive rituals. On the contrary, those holy precepts embody a timeless and priceless formula that changes lives and reshapes worlds.

The brilliance of Rav Soloveitchik should speak to the heart and mind of any reader who genuinely wants to comprehend the central tenets of Torah. Highly recommended.

The brilliance of R' Soloveitchik

This work, translated from the Hebrew, "Ish Ha-Halakha" is a masterpiece. It draws from many different wellsprings of knowledge, including everything from the Torah and scriptures to the Talmud. It is presented beautifully; each word is specifically and carefully chosen. For some, this book may be difficult to read, as the prose waxes philisophical and very descriptive, and oftentimes one needs to make connections within one's own mind.

The basic premise of this work, in its simplest form, is to discover and delineate the differences between "homo religiousus" and the "Halakhic man." Whereas homo religiousus, for instance, may be thrown about the tempestuous waves of emotion and transcendental religiousity, Halakhic man is one who discovers the meaning of religion through the laws, the balances, the critiques. Halakhic man seems more analytical, whereas homo religiosus is expressive and emotional. While both serve God, and serve Him properly, they serve Him in different ways. Halakhic man desires to bring God down to this world, the world considered, "Olam Hazeh," whereas homo religiousus desires to transcend the world, so that he may reach up to God in, "Olam Haba" or beyond, the next world.

However, this work also includes specific examples of man's guidelines/purpose/understanding. One of the most fascinating ideas is that of man as a Creator, also echoed, in some ways, in books like The Fountainhead. Even as God is the Creator, we humans emulate Him, and therefore, we, too, are creators. This is a very uplifting view of life and Judaism, for if one makes mistakes, we may self-create. Teshuva, repentance, is regarded as the idea of self-creation.

All in all, R' Soloveitchik expresses himself in ways that cling to the mind and make us thirst for more. This is a fascinating world. If you wish to enter, there is perhaps no better place to begin.

But it is the central statement of one of the greatest of all modern Jewish thinkers. And I believe all those interested in the deepest Jewish thought should know this work.

A 49 Day Interactive Devotional Journey

"The Healing Journey" is an interactive guide to spiritual wholeness, focusing on healing truths. This a book for the Christian seeking to rediscover or develop the process of scripture mediation, personal prayer, and intimacy with God. Thom Gardner encourages the reader to use a unique combination of listening to God and then journaling what you hear.

As I looked through the tools provided in this 49 day devotional journey I was motivated by a strong desire to experience a real deepening of my relationship with the Lord. I was ready to begin my healing journey.

Each daily encounter is designed to lead the reader to tune their heart to meditate on the word of God. The format provides a scriptural truth, an affirming scriptural promise, a suggested guideline for mediation, and thought provoking questions. The reader is lead through interactive steps culminating in recording an entry in their own "My Healing Journey" journal.

Among the truths explored throughout the 49 days I found those dealing the topics of fear, insecurity, and anxiety especially helpful. The weekly journal summaries insure that the reader will assimilate each truth and incorporation their personal application discoveries into their daily walk.

Although designed to be a companion volume to Gardner's earlier book "Healing the Wounded Heart" the book stands on its own. "The Healing Journey" is a refreshing approach to experiencing a deeper relationship with God the Father.

This is a very unique book expressed in 49 days of intense direction for all who want to grow with a healing heart and serve in a healing ministry. It is a help-mate book, and it covers the breath of the 'jounrney' needed to live a life of spiritual wholeness.
It is for the wounded, the ill, the lonesome,and actually all the Christians who need to learn about living a life of helping, equipping, and guiding those who are in need of learning all about the 'healing' power of our Lord and then to minister in a healing atmosphere daily.
This is a spirital growth book fashioned to help all Christians in their body, soul and spiritual lives. Love it!
